Paulien Van den Brande is a Belgian accessory and textile designer. She studied Textile Design, specialising in weave, at Central Saint Martins in London, and previously graduated in Fashion Technology from University College Ghent.

 

Her practice is shaped by a hands-on approach to both design and making. Through internships in luxury fashion, woven textiles and costume, Paulien developed a strong understanding of materials, construction and production. Today, she independently designs and produces her accessories, carefully overseeing each stage from concept and material development to finishing. Rooted in traditional textile techniques, her work reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and results in tactile pieces made to be worn, used and kept.

 

Drawing inspiration from nature, romanticism and the beauty found in everyday details, Paulien’s creative practice explores a sense of nostalgia, comfort and connection. Growing up in the historic city of Bruges and spending much of her childhood immersed in nature shaped her fascination with intricate ornamentation, rich textures and subtle colour palettes. Her experience living and studying in London introduced her to traditional crafts and textile techniques through a more experimental lens, shaping the way she engages with making today. Influenced by practices such as weaving, lace-making and passementerie, she combines historical references with a contemporary mixed-media approach to create accessories that feel both familiar and timeless. Through texture, layering and carefully considered details, her work aims to create pieces that evoke a quiet sense of beauty and emotional resonance.
